A man was stabbed to death with a sharp weapon following a clash between two groups near the labour quarters at Colombo Port City, Hiru News reported.
Police said the man killed was a resident of the Bandarawela area who had come to work at Colombo Port City on a contract basis.
Investigations found that the killing followed an argument that broke out during a party held by workers near the quarters on Friday night and escalated.
Context
The labour quarters house the contract workforce employed on the Port City development. The reported sequence — a workers’ party, an argument between two groups, a fatal stabbing — places this within the accommodation compound rather than the construction site itself.
This is a separate matter from the killing of a Chinese national at Port City in July, an abduction and murder in which two Chinese nationals were later arrested in Sigiriya. The two incidents share a location and nothing else.
Not reported
Hiru’s filing does not name the victim or give his age, say where he died or whether he was taken to hospital, or identify his employer. It does not say how many people were involved in the clash, what the argument was about, whether anyone has been arrested, or which police division is conducting the investigation. It gives no time for the incident beyond “last night”, and carries no comment from the Port City authorities or the contractor.
Ada Derana also filed on the killing, but its site has returned a block to this newsroom for 20 consecutive days — through both of the routes available here — and that account could not be retrieved. No other verified Sri Lankan newsroom appears to have carried the story at the time of writing; the Daily Mirror’s latest-news listing contained no filing on it.
