More than 250 golfers are expected to compete in the Royal Colombo Golf Club Monthly Medal, being played over Saturday and Sunday at the club’s course in Borella, the Daily Mirror reported.

Play opened with golfers teeing off from 6am on Saturday, 10 October, and continues on Sunday, 11 October. The prize-giving ceremony is scheduled for the RCGC Club House at 7pm on Sunday, where the medal winners will be recognised.

The Monthly Medal is a regular fixture on the club’s calendar rather than a one-off tournament. A field of over 250 across two days is a substantial turnout for a club competition, and reflects the scale of the membership at one of the country’s oldest golf clubs.

The Royal Colombo Golf Club’s course sits at Model Farm Road in Borella, inside the city — an unusual arrangement for an 18-hole course and one of the reasons the club’s competitions draw large fields from within Colombo itself.

The Daily Mirror’s filing is a preview published on the opening morning, not a report of play. It does not give the exact size of the field, the format or handicap divisions being contested, the defending medal holder, or any of the competitors’ names. No results were available at the time of writing; the winners will not be known until the prize-giving on Sunday evening.
