A Sri Lankan delegation including the Secretary to the Treasury was scheduled to leave for Thailand today to attend the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, NewsFirst reported.
Deputy Minister of Finance Dr Anil Jayantha said discussions would focus on Sri Lanka’s progress to date, economic stability, and plans for the country’s future economic transformation.
The meetings run in Bangkok from 12 October until 18 October. More than 15,000 delegates from 191 countries are expected to attend.
Context
The trip comes while Sri Lanka is in discussion with the IMF about what follows its current Extended Fund Facility, which runs to March 2027. Dr Jayantha told Parliament last week that the EFF was on track to conclude successfully and that talks were underway on a growth-targeted engagement to succeed it.
The annual meetings bring together finance ministers, central bank governors and officials from the two institutions’ member countries, and are typically used for bilateral meetings alongside the formal programme.
Not reported
NewsFirst does not name the Secretary to the Treasury or list the delegation’s other members, and does not say whether the Central Bank Governor or the Finance Minister is travelling. It does not say whether formal talks on a successor IMF programme are scheduled on the margins of the meetings, or whether any review mission or staff-level discussion is expected to take place there.
No second verified newsroom had filed on the delegation at the time of writing. Searches returned only earlier editions of the annual meetings in other host cities; this article is written from the 11 October filing alone.
