A 24-year-old man has been arrested in Mabola, Wattala, with more than 18 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and heroin, police said, according to the Daily Mirror.
The arrest was made by officers of the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) following a tip-off.
Police recovered 9kg 229g of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ‘Ice’, and 9kg 264g of heroin from the suspect. A weighing scale believed to have been used to measure narcotics, and a mobile phone, were also seized.
The suspect is a resident of Wattala. The Colombo Crimes Division is conducting further investigations.
Context
Quantities at this scale place the seizure among the larger single-suspect hauls reported this year. The presence of scales alongside near-equal weights of two different drugs is consistent with distribution rather than personal possession, though police have not characterised the suspect’s alleged role.
Not reported
The Daily Mirror does not give the date of the arrest, the estimated street value of the narcotics, or where the drugs are alleged to have been sourced. It does not say whether the suspect has been produced in court or remanded, whether he is alleged to be connected to any known network, or whether further arrests are expected.
No second verified newsroom had filed on the arrest at the time of writing.
