Sri Lanka’s cricket selectors have named a seven-member squad for the Hong Kong Sixes 2026, with Sangeeth Cooray appointed captain.

The tournament runs from 30 October to 1 November at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Kowloon, Hong Kong, and features 12 teams, the Daily Mirror reported on Wednesday morning.

The squad named by the Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee:

The draw

The Daily Mirror does not give Sri Lanka’s group. The published tournament schedule places them in Group B alongside Bangladesh and Scotland, with the 12 teams split into four groups of three and the group winners advancing to the Cup semi-finals.

On that schedule, Sri Lanka open against Bangladesh on 30 October and meet Scotland on 31 October. The draw and fixtures are carried consistently across several independent tournament listings rather than by the Daily Mirror, and are reported here on that basis.

Not a return — Sri Lanka played last year

Sri Lanka are continuing participants in the format, not re-entering it. The island contested the 2025 edition of the same tournament, also at Tin Kwong Road: Ada Derana and island.lk both published squad announcements for the Hong Kong Sixes 2025, and the Daily News filed its own report in October 2025 under the headline “Lahiru leads Lankan team for Hong Kong Sixes” — a different captain from a different squad.

Those are prior-year filings and are noted here for context only; they are too old to count among this article’s sources.

A further claim circulates in secondary accounts of the tournament — that Sri Lanka won the 2024 Hong Kong Sixes, beating Pakistan in the final for a second title since 2007. This desk could not verify it. island.lk’s archive did not return a readable copy of the relevant report, and the Daily News site was behind a bot challenge at the time of writing. The claim is recorded here as unconfirmed rather than repeated as fact.

Sourcing

This report rests on a single verified newsroom. The squad announcement was checked against Daily FT’s front-page, top-story and business sections, the NewsFirst and Hiru News home pages, and domain-restricted searches of island.lk, the Daily News, news.lk, Ada Derana and ESPNcricinfo — none of which had filed on the 2026 squad when this was written. ThePapare and several international wire services carried the same squad list, but are not counted toward this article’s source rating.
