Sri Lanka’s Under-17s beat Pakistan by 99 runs at the Multan Cricket Stadium on Thursday, taking a 1-0 lead in a five-match one-day series.

Batting first, Sri Lanka posted 239 for 6 from their 50 overs, built on Methuka Gunaratne’s 77 and Reshon Solomon’s 42, Dawn reported. Mohammad Ihsaan took 3 for 43 for the hosts and Fahad Iqbal 2 for 49.

Chasing 240, Pakistan were bowled out for 140 in 39 overs. Sandaru Malshan led the Sri Lankan attack with 3 for 16, and Thisanga Perera took 2 for 19. Mohammad Saim top-scored for Pakistan with 30. Gunaratne was named player of the match.

The Nation carried the same agency report with identical figures.

Brief scores

Result — Sri Lanka won by 99 runs

The match was played on Thursday, not Friday

Worth stating plainly, because the reports appeared on Friday morning. Both Pakistani papers filed overnight — Dawn’s edition is datelined 16 October and The Nation’s timestamp is 05:32 Pakistan time on 16 October — but both say the match was played on Thursday, 15 October.

The second one-day of the series is at the same venue on Saturday. Dawn gives no closing date for the series beyond that.

Note on sourcing

This is a youth bilateral fixture played away from home, and no newsroom on this desk’s verified list — Sri Lankan or international — had filed on it at the time of writing. The two sources above are Pakistani national dailies running what appears to be the same agency copy, so they corroborate each other only weakly.

The one disagreement between them is a spelling: Dawn has Reshon Solomon, The Nation has “Solomons”. This report follows Dawn. ThePapare published Sinhala and English match reports, but the site returns no response to direct requests from this desk’s host and was rate-limited through the reader service, so it could not be used.

Not reported

Neither source gives the toss, the full scorecard, batting positions, or the names of the captains. Neither reports the series end date, the composition of either squad, or whether a three-day match preceded the one-day series. No comment from Sri Lanka Cricket or the team management has been reported.
