Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe is scheduled to speak on Sri Lanka’s economic recovery at the NDTV World Summit in New Delhi on Thursday afternoon.
He addresses a session titled “Sri Lanka’s Economic Reset: Recovery, Resilience and the Road Ahead” at 5 p.m. on 22 October, Newswire reported.
The summit runs on 22 and 23 October in New Delhi under the theme “A World Between Orders”, and brings together political leaders, diplomats, policymakers and business executives. The session title, dates, theme and Abeysinghe’s designation all appear on the summit’s own promotional card for the event, which carries his name and office directly.
Abeysinghe was elected to Parliament for the Colombo District in 2024 and appointed deputy minister in November that year. He has a background in finance, data analytics and business technology.
What he brings to the stage
Sri Lanka’s pitch at a summit like this is a recovery story, and the figures behind it have firmed up in recent weeks.
Colombo reached a staff-level agreement with the IMF on the seventh review of its four-year Extended Fund Facility at the start of October, a step that also concluded the 2026 Article IV consultation. Board approval would release about US$345 million and take total disbursements under the programme to roughly US$2.7 billion.
Abeysinghe has also been one of the more pointed government voices on the limits of that programme. Days after the seventh review, he told reporters the government would not implement IMF proposals that conflict with National People’s Power policy, saying Colombo was not obliged to adopt every proposal the Fund put forward. How that line is pitched to an international audience in New Delhi — alongside the recovery narrative — is the thing to watch in the session.
He has carried similar briefs abroad and at home before, including on the Port City’s investment targets.
Not reported
Neither filing says who else joins the Sri Lanka session, who moderates it, or whether Abeysinghe is travelling with a wider delegation. Neither says whether he will hold bilateral meetings in Delhi. Nothing has been published on what new material, if any, the government intends to announce at the summit.
A note on sourcing: this item was reported by aggregators rather than by a verified newsroom. NDTV, which hosts the summit and is the original source for its programme, cannot be reached from this desk — the domain does not resolve through any of our fetch routes — so no publication date could be extracted for an NDTV page and none is cited. No Sri Lankan verified newsroom had filed on Abeysinghe’s participation at the time of writing. The session details above are corroborated by the summit’s own promotional card, published alongside the Newswire report.
