A fire broke out at a machinery and electrical appliance store in Nittambuwa town on Friday afternoon, and two fire engines were deployed to bring it under control, the Daily Mirror and Hiru News reported.
Nittambuwa Police said the two fire trucks were sent to the scene to extinguish the blaze.
The cause of the fire has not been established, and the value of the property damage has not yet been assessed.
Nittambuwa is a commercial town on the Colombo–Kandy road in the Gampaha District, and the premises sits in the town centre among other shopfronts.
Not reported
Both newsrooms carry the same three facts and nothing more, which indicates a single police statement rather than independent reporting. Neither says whether anyone was injured, whether the fire was brought under control, how long it burned, or whether neighbouring businesses were affected. The store is not named and its owner is not identified. No fire brigade officer is quoted, and neither account says which fire service responded.
Photographs published with Hiru’s report show a substantial blaze with flames rising through the shopfront and a large crowd gathered in the street, suggesting a more serious incident than the brief police statement conveys. That could not be confirmed from either filing.
