Four Thai women were arrested on Friday evening during a police raid on a brothel said to have been operating under the guise of a massage parlour in Wellawatte, Colombo.
The raid was carried out in the Marine Drive area, within the Wellawatte police division, by a team of officers from the Wellawatte Police Station acting on information received, the Daily Mirror reported.
A woman suspected of managing the establishment was arrested along with the four Thai nationals, who are aged between 35 and 43 and were allegedly involved in prostitution.
Wellawatte Police are continuing investigations.
Not reported
The report does not name the establishment, say how long it had been operating, or state under which law the five women were arrested. It does not say whether the four Thai nationals held valid visas, whether immigration authorities have been informed, or whether any client was detained. No court appearance date is given, and the report does not say whether the manager is a Sri Lankan national.
It also does not address whether the women were working voluntarily — a question that determines whether this is a prostitution case or a trafficking one. Police have not characterised it either way.
The report carries the byline of Ajith Siriwardana. No other verified newsroom had filed on the raid at the time of writing.
