Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha has met Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna General Secretary Tilvin Silva in Colombo, the High Commission of India has said.
The Daily Mirror reported at 1.05 p.m. on Thursday that the discussions centred on India–Sri Lanka ties and contemporary developments.
Why the JVP general secretary
Tilvin Silva is not a member of the government, and the meeting is a party channel rather than a state one. The JVP is the principal constituent of the National People’s Power, which holds the presidency and a parliamentary majority, making its general secretary one of the more consequential figures outside formal office.
That channel has been used before this year. Silva led a JVP delegation to India in October and met External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi. Thursday’s meeting continues the same party-to-government contact, this time in Colombo.
Jha has been a regular presence across several strands of the relationship this year, from reviewing India-funded projects to meeting Tamil parties in the north.
Not reported
The filing is brief and carries no substance from the meeting itself. It does not say where or when it took place, who else attended, or which “contemporary developments” were discussed. Neither side is quoted.
Nothing is reported on whether any specific project, agreement or bilateral issue was raised, whether the meeting was requested by either side, or whether it is part of a wider round of consultations. The JVP has not been reported as issuing its own account, and the readout rests on the Indian High Commission’s statement alone.
