Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya is to represent Sri Lanka at the 28th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), which opens tomorrow in Antigua and Barbuda.

The summit runs from 1 to 4 November in St John’s, the capital of the Caribbean two-island state, Hiru News reported at 8.20 a.m. on Saturday.

It is being held under the theme “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth”, and heads of state and government from the Commonwealth’s 56 member countries are expected to attend.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to take part in several executive sessions of the summit and to hold meetings with a number of other heads of government while there.

What the meeting is

CHOGM is the Commonwealth’s biennial leaders’ summit, at which heads of government set the organisation’s direction and agree its communiqué. The 2026 edition is hosted by Antigua and Barbuda; the theme and dates reported by Hiru match those published by the Commonwealth Secretariat for CHOGM 2026.

Sri Lanka has a particular history with the summit — it hosted CHOGM in Colombo in 2013 and chaired the Commonwealth for the following two years.

Not reported

Hiru’s filing does not name the other members of the Sri Lankan delegation, give a departure date, say which leaders the Prime Minister will meet bilaterally, or set out what Sri Lanka intends to raise at the summit. No verified Sri Lankan newsroom other than Hiru had carried the item at the time of writing, and no Prime Minister’s Media Division release on the trip could be retrieved.

A note on one detail: some early renderings of this story described the Prime Minister as joining the summit from Sri Lanka. The Sinhala original says she joins representing Sri Lanka at the meeting in Antigua and Barbuda. Nothing in the filing indicates remote participation.
