The Colombo Junior Open Squash Championship 2026 has concluded at the Squash Complex of the Sri Lanka Air Force Base, Ratmalana, drawing 176 junior players from nine countries.
The tournament is an official Asian Junior Super Series (AJSS) event, the Daily Mirror reported.
The field
The five-day competition ran from 24 to 28 October and included 54 international competitors — meaning roughly 122 of the 176 entrants were Sri Lankan.
The nine countries represented were Bangladesh, China, Hong Kong-China, Macao-China, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
Play was spread across 10 age categories: boys’ and girls’ draws at Under-11, Under-13, Under-15, Under-17 and Under-19.
Under-19 results
In the boys’ Under-19 category, Malaysia’s Kesawan Gunasekaran took the title, with Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Wijesekara finishing runner-up.
In the girls’ Under-19 category, Rashnima Shre Ragu won, with Thvyashini Muthukumar second. The filing does not give nationalities for either girls’ finalist.
Organisers and purpose
The championship was held under the auspices of the Asian Squash Federation in collaboration with Sri Lanka Squash.
Organisers framed the event as giving young players international exposure, competitive experience and ranking points counting towards national and Asian Squash Federation rankings, while also supporting efforts to promote Sri Lanka as a destination for international sporting events.
Star Gold, a brand of RG Brothers, was main sponsor; Winged Falcon was the official racket partner.
Not reported
The Daily Mirror’s wrap gives results only for the two Under-19 draws — no placings are listed for the remaining eight categories, and no overall or per-country medal tally is given. It does not say how many of the 176 entrants were girls, name the Sri Lanka Squash or Asian Squash Federation officials involved, or state whether the event returns to Colombo next year.
