The Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) will reintroduce its online appointment booking system for services at its Narahenpita office from November 2, 2026, the Daily Mirror reported.
The facility will allow members of the public to book appointments online for new vehicle registrations, vehicle ownership transfers and technical-related matters.
The department has asked the public to make appointments through the online system before travelling to the office.
The stated aim is to reduce long queues, particularly among people who arrive at the department early in the morning to obtain its services.
Appointments are to be booked through the department’s booking site at dmtappointments.dmt.gov.lk.
Context
Queue management at Narahenpita has been a recurring complaint from vehicle owners, with applicants arriving before opening hours to secure a place. The reintroduction of the system — described in the filing as a return rather than a new launch — indicates the facility had previously been withdrawn or suspended.
Not reported
The filing does not say when or why the online appointment system was discontinued, whether the November 2 restart covers all DMT services or only the three categories listed, whether walk-in service will continue alongside bookings, how far in advance appointments can be made, or whether other DMT offices outside Narahenpita are included.
Ada Derana also carried the announcement but remained unreachable for verification, returning a CloudFront block on every route tested, so it is not cited here.
