A British adventurer who has spent 28 years walking around the world is approaching the end of his journey.

Karl Bushby, 57, began the walk in 1998 from Punta Arenas in southern Chile, setting out to reach his home town of Hull, in England, entirely on foot.

He has held to two conditions he set for himself at the outset: that he would not return to the United Kingdom until the journey was complete, and that he would not use any form of transport to cover the distance.

The BBC, whose reporting Hiru News relayed, said that when the walk ends he is to be met by his 36-year-old son Adam, a 12-year-old granddaughter he has never met, his father and his brothers.

At the childhood home he left nearly three decades ago, his mother is waiting for him.

A note on the reporting: Hiru News published the item under a headline stating that Bushby had already returned home, while the text of the same report describes him as still completing the final stage of the walk. The account in the body of the report is followed here.
