The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will launch a series of islandwide village-level meetings on Monday (November 2), starting in the Colombo District, party Operations Head Johnston Fernando said.

The campaign runs under the guidance of SLPP National Organiser and MP Namal Rajapaksa, and the meetings will be held five days a week across the country, Fernando told a meeting with SLPP constituency organisers in the Colombo District.

He said the programme is intended to brief the public on what the party describes as unfulfilled government promises and alleged financial irregularities under the current administration.

Fernando instructed organisers to raise a specific list of issues at the meetings: the release of 323 containers, alleged irregularities in the coal tender, the Central Bank hacking incident, and funds he said had been transferred to incorrect accounts.

He also told organisers to draw attention to election pledges on tax relief — including the proposed removal of taxes on essential goods, healthcare and school supplies — which he said the government had not delivered.

The launch follows through on a plan Namal Rajapaksa set out on October 21, when he said the party’s “village to village” ward meetings would begin the following week and that organisers had been pressed to hold them quickly. The start date has slipped by about a week and a half from that timetable.

No response from the government to the specific allegations was carried in the report.
