Sri Lanka’s Taavi Samaraweera has won gold in the boys’ Under-11 singles at a World Table Tennis ranking tournament held in Senec, Slovakia.

Hiru News reported the win, describing the event as a ranking tournament organised under the world table tennis body rather than a world championship. The photograph accompanying the report shows Samaraweera with the winner’s trophy in front of a WTT Youth Series backdrop carrying the Slovak Ministry of Tourism and Sport, the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee and the National Sports Centre among its sponsors — confirming the event as a stop on the WTT youth ranking circuit.

It is the second youth-circuit gold the paddler has taken in a little over a week. On October 25 he won the Under-11 boys’ singles at the WTT Youth Contender in Lignano, Italy, beating a Hong Kong opponent 3-0 in the final — a result this desk recorded at the time as his fifth World Youth Ranking gold of 2026.

Samaraweera has been among the most consistent Sri Lankan performers on the junior international circuit this year, and previously reached the top of the world Under-11 rankings during a European tour.

The Hiru report did not name his opponent in the Senec final, give the score, or state the dates of the tournament. No other Sri Lankan newsroom had carried the result at the time of writing.

Sri Lanka Table Tennis had not issued a statement on the win.
