A delegation of Singaporean media representatives is touring Sri Lanka from 1 to 7 November on a familiarisation visit intended to promote the island as a destination for Singaporean travellers.
The tour is organised by the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) and the Singapore Press Club, the Colombo Gazette reported.
It is led by the Vice-President of the Singapore Press Club, Baghman Singh. The journalists are to experience Sri Lanka’s cultural heritage, natural attractions, hospitality and food.
Preparation
The High Commission held a pre-departure briefing on 28 October at its premises in Singapore. The participating journalists attended in person; SLTPB officials joined virtually. The session set out the programme and the attractions the delegation would see.
On their return, the journalists are expected to write and broadcast about the visit through their own outlets.
The High Commission frames the tour as part of continuing efforts to strengthen people-to-people and media links between the two countries, working with tourism industry stakeholders.
Context
The visit runs in the week Sri Lanka reported its best-ever October for tourist arrivals — 168,625 visitors — while cumulative arrivals for the year remained 1.5% behind 2025 and tourism earnings for the first nine months fell 9.2%.
Singapore does not appear among the source markets named in the October arrivals data, where India, the United Kingdom, China, Australia and Germany led.
Not reported
The report does not say how many journalists are taking part, name any of them besides the delegation leader, or identify their outlets. It gives no itinerary, no indication of which parts of the island the group will visit, and no cost or funding breakdown for the tour.
It does not say whether this is a recurring programme or a one-off, and quotes no official by name.
Single source. This is a High Commission announcement carried by the Colombo Gazette, which routinely publishes Sri Lankan diplomatic missions’ press material. A search of other verified newsrooms found no independent report of the visit.
