The Police Special Task Force has arrested a man it describes as a key representative of an overseas-based organised crime syndicate in Wellampitiya, seizing 1.03 kg of methamphetamine, NewsFirst reported.
Acting on a tip-off, STF officers raided a location outside a residence on Pansalhena Road and arrested a 40-year-old resident of the area.
Police identified the suspect as a principal associate of a figure known as “Subha”, who is said to run the local distribution network on behalf of a Dubai-based trafficker known as “Dubai Dhanushka”.
The suspect and the seized drugs have been handed to Wellampitiya Police for further investigation.
The quantity
At 1.03 kg, the seizure is a substantial one for a single street-level arrest. Methamphetamine — known locally as “ice” — is trafficked into Sri Lanka in bulk by sea and broken down for distribution, and quantities at this level are usually associated with a distribution node rather than an end user.
What is not established
The filing does not name the suspect, say whether he has been produced before a magistrate or remanded, or give the street value of the drugs. It does not say whether “Subha” or “Dubai Dhanushka” have been identified by their legal names, whether either is the subject of a warrant or an Interpol notice, or whether the arrest followed from an earlier operation.
The characterisation of the suspect as a syndicate representative is the police account, attributed to them; no charge has been established in court.
This is a single-source report. No other verified newsroom had carried the raid at the time of writing — neither the Hiru rail nor the Daily Mirror breaking listing held it when checked.
