Litro Gas says a further LPG shipment reached Sri Lanka on Tuesday and that distribution of the new stocks begins on Wednesday, NewsFirst reported.
The company said it has ordered 40,000 metric tonnes of gas for November, and that supplies are expected to reach all gas distribution centres across the country within the next few days.
This is the first reported arrival since cylinder queues formed in Colombo and several other towns at the start of the month. Litro’s chairman had said on Monday that the shortage would be overcome within two days, with about 80,000 cylinders going out daily.
LAUGFS schedule
The same filing restates the shipment timetable announced by LAUGFS Gas, which has arranged three cargoes during November at Hambantota and Colombo ports, in the windows 12–14 November, 15–17 November and 24–25 November.
The first two windows match what LAUGFS set out on Tuesday. The third does not: the Daily Mirror and Hiru News both reported that cargo as arriving between 24 and 28 November, where NewsFirst gives 24–25. The discrepancy is unexplained and neither version has been confirmed by the company since.
LAUGFS also still requires regulatory clearance before it can release gas from its Hambantota terminal into the domestic market, a bottleneck tied to the terminal’s status under the Board of Investment’s Commercial Hub framework.
Not reported
NewsFirst does not give the tonnage of the shipment that has just arrived, name the supplier or the discharge port, or say how much of the 40,000-tonne November order the cargo represents. Nor does it say whether distribution is being prioritised to particular districts.
