A 32-year-old woman was killed inside a house in the Kumbukkalla area of the Saliyawewa police division on Tuesday evening after a family dispute escalated, Hiru News reported.
Saliyawewa police opened an investigation after receiving a complaint. The dead woman was a resident of Kumbukkalla itself.
Police suspect she was killed by her husband. The suspect left the area after the incident, and Saliyawewa police are conducting further inquiries to arrest him.
The body has been placed in the mortuary of Puttalam Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is to be carried out following a magistrate’s inquest.
