Union Assurance PLC has partnered with the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) to launch a structured leadership course for the managers who run its agency distribution channel.

The Union Assurance Agency Management Development Programme was formalised through a memorandum of understanding, the Daily Mirror reported.

What the course covers

The programme is aimed specifically at the insurer’s agency management team. Its curriculum covers leadership and culture building, situational leadership, building high-performance teams, decision making and problem solving, and business finance for leaders.

SLIM is the local professional body for marketing, offering qualifications, leadership development and research.

What the partners said

Union Assurance Chief Agency Officer Imtiyaz Aniff said the partnership was intended to help agency leaders “strengthen their capabilities, broaden their perspectives and develop the skills needed to lead high-performing teams, drive sustainable growth and deliver on our promise of protecting the progress of all our stakeholders.”

SLIM Chief Executive Chamil Wickremasinghe said the collaboration “reflects a shared dedication to continuous learning, leadership excellence and professional growth,” and was aimed at equipping professionals “with the knowledge, skills and strategic thinking needed to embrace change, drive innovation, enhance organisational performance.”

Context and what is not reported

Agency distribution remains the dominant channel for life insurance sales in Sri Lanka, where penetration is low by regional standards, and insurers compete heavily for experienced agency leadership. Training agreements between insurers and professional institutes are a common response to that competition.

The announcement does not say how many managers will take part, how long the programme runs, whether it carries a SLIM qualification on completion, or what it costs. It does not state when the first intake begins.
