Two people were found dead at a house in the Doragala area of the Pussellawa police division on Wednesday afternoon, and police have begun an investigation.
A woman was killed with a sharp weapon inside the house, and the man who attacked her was afterwards found dead at the same location, Hiru News reported on Thursday morning.
Pussellawa Police opened inquiries after receiving a complaint about the incident, which took place during the afternoon of 4 November.
Those who died
The dead are a 38-year-old woman who lived in the Doragala area and a 38-year-old man from the Kurunegala area. Neither has been named in the report.
Police investigations have established that the woman was separated from her first marriage and had subsequently been in a relationship with the man.
An argument between the two at the womanβs house escalated on the day of the incident, according to the police account relayed in the report.
What has not been established
The filing is a preliminary police account and should be read as one. It does not report a post-mortem examination, an inquest, or any finding by a magistrate β the formal steps by which causes of death are determined in Sri Lanka.
It does not say who made the complaint, at what time police reached the scene, whether anyone else was in the house, or whether the two had any history of reported disputes. No family member, neighbour or named police officer is quoted.
Pussellawa Police said further investigations are continuing.
