The Police Special Task Force has arrested a 32-year-old man at a house in Thalawathugoda after recovering more than eight kilograms of narcotics.
The haul was found at a house on Lane 07 in Thalawathugoda, Hiru News reported. It comprised:
- 5kg 290g of crystal methamphetamine (“ice”)
- 2kg 946g of heroin
That is 8kg 236g in total. Investigations into the suspect are continuing.
A second seizure nearby the same morning
A separate arrest was reported in the adjoining Sri Jayawardenepura area hours earlier, where a 25-year-old was detained in Madiwela after officers of the Western Province North Crime Division recovered heroin, ice and kush concealed at a house.
The two cases involve different suspects, different units and different quantities, and no outlet connects them. Together they account for more than 14kg of narcotics recovered in Colombo’s south-eastern suburbs within a single morning.
A third arrest was reported the same day at Bandaranaike International Airport, where an Indian national was detained with kush and hashish.

The filing does not name the suspect, say whether the house was his residence, or state what prompted the raid. It does not give a street value for the haul, say whether anyone else was detained, or report whether the suspect has been produced before a court. It does not say whether the seizure is linked to any known trafficking network.
An arrest is not a finding of guilt, and no charges had been reported at the time of writing.
