A shooting targeting an individual known as “Podi Patty,” allegedly linked to organised crime, was carried out near the Lokaswatta cemetery in Ahungalla on Thursday morning.
Police said the attack occurred while Podi Patty was travelling in a three-wheeler. Despite the shooting, he was not injured in the incident.
Podi Patty is the brother of “Loku Patty,” a known organised criminal figure, police confirmed. The suspects responsible for the attack have not yet been identified, and investigations are ongoing.
The incident adds to a series of organised crime-related violence that has prompted authorities to step up enforcement operations. Police have conducted island-wide anti-drug sweeps and cross-jurisdiction raids in recent weeks targeting criminal networks.
