President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Friday revealed that a Criminal Investigation Department officer is currently overseas as part of ongoing investigations into the April 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, Newswire reported.

Speaking at the National People’s Power May Day rally in Colombo, Dissanayake did not name the officer or the country involved, but the disclosure marks the first public confirmation that the Easter probe has an active overseas investigative track. Past prosecution arguments have referenced suspects believed to have fled the country, including allegations aired by the Attorney General’s department and the CID’s Sarah Jasmine line of inquiry.

The President also pledged a major crackdown on corruption, telling supporters that 2026 would see “the largest number of corrupt individuals, fraudsters and thieves” brought before the courts. He said authorities would not consider whether suspects were “former presidents, wives, sons, or any other relatives” when pursuing prosecutions.

He added that legal proceedings would accelerate, with 10 corruption-related cases and 5 criminal cases scheduled to be heard in court during the course of May.
