Two suspects were arrested in Angoda overnight with a stock of ice and heroin worth nearly Rs. 50 million, police said on Thursday.
Officers from the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) seized 2.3 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine (“ice”) and 700 grams of heroin from the suspects, who were intercepted while transporting the drugs in a motor vehicle, NewsFirst reported. The raid was carried out late on Wednesday night based on intelligence received by the PNB.
The seizure is the latest in a steady stream of multi-kilogram interdictions reported under the government’s Rata Ekata anti-narcotics operation, which has logged more than 168,000 arrests since it was launched in October 2025. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s Steering Council on drug control on Wednesday set out fresh enforcement and rehabilitation reforms, including the proposed establishment of a dedicated narcotics court.
The two suspects and the seized narcotics have been handed over for further investigation.
