Veteran Sri Lankan journalist Anura Solomons, former Chief Editor of the Divaina Sunday Edition, has died at the age of 66 following a heart attack at the National Hospital in Colombo on April 10.
Solomons began his career in the late 1970s at Multifax Newspapers before joining the Upali Newspaper group, where he rose through the ranks of one of Sri Lanka’s most prominent Sinhala-language media houses. He went on to lead the Sunday edition of Divaina, one of the country’s leading Sinhala-language Sunday newspapers.
Beyond his editorial career, Solomons served as a media adviser to former Presidents Mahinda Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickremesinghe, bridging the worlds of journalism and political communication across different administrations.
He was educated at St. Mary’s College Kegalle, Dharmapala College Pannipitiya, and St. John’s College Nugegoda.
The Island described Solomons as “widely respected” in Sri Lanka’s journalism community, with a career spanning more than four decades in print media.
