The Department of Meteorology has issued a caution-level heat advisory for 13 districts on Thursday, April 30, warning of elevated heat-index conditions across the North-Central, Eastern and Sabaragamuwa provinces.

Affected districts include Kurunegala, Monaragala, Vavuniya, Mullaittivu and Kilinochchi. The advisory says the heat index — the temperature felt on the human body when humidity is factored in — is likely to reach caution level at some places.

Prolonged exposure may cause fatigue, the department said, and continued activity in the heat could trigger heat cramps. The public is urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during the afternoon and watch for symptoms of heat-related illness.

The advisory follows a wider 21-district heat alert issued earlier in April. Sri Lanka’s inter-monsoonal April typically delivers the year’s highest land-surface temperatures, with the Dry Zone districts most exposed.
