Central Bank Governor Dr. P. Nandalal Weerasinghe formally presented the “Annual Economic Review 2025” and the “Financial Statements and Operations 2025” reports to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on Monday morning, the Central Bank said. The handover took place at the Presidential Secretariat in the President’s dual capacity as Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

The Annual Economic Review, the Central Bank’s flagship publication, concludes that Sri Lanka’s economy “further strengthened the progress achieved in previous years” through 2025, supported by continued macroeconomic stability and the ongoing programme of policy and structural reforms.

The report acknowledges that the resilience came against a difficult external backdrop: rising global trade and geopolitical uncertainty, and adverse weather conditions and natural disasters in the latter part of 2025 — chiefly Cyclone Ditwah, which the UN has assessed caused $4.1 billion in damage and displaced more than two million people. Despite these shocks, the Central Bank says domestic economic activity remained resilient.

Improved macroeconomic conditions and greater policy stability have enhanced investor confidence, strengthening the investment climate, the report argues. The framing aligns with the CBSL’s recent Business Outlook Survey, which found firms remained cautiously optimistic despite the Ditwah and Middle East shocks.

Present at the ceremony were Deputy Finance Minister and Minister of Labour Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando and the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. The review lands as Central Bank officials participate in the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, where Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring progress and external financing outlook are under review by the Global Sovereign Debt Roundtable co-chairs.

The Annual Economic Review 2025 is the primary year-end macroeconomic assessment used by international ratings agencies and multilateral lenders when evaluating Sri Lanka’s reform trajectory.
