Six Chinese nationals have been arrested over allegations of running an illegal gambling den at a club in Kollupitiya, Colombo, police said on Thursday.
The suspects, aged between 27 and 48, were detained following a raid at the premises, NewsFirst reported. Newswire said the club had been operating without a valid licence. Investigations into the operation are ongoing under the supervision of the Colpetty Police.
The arrests come amid a sustained crackdown on foreign-national criminal activity. Earlier this month police confirmed 628 foreigners had been arrested for illegal activities since the start of the year, with operations ranging from a Negombo cell of 50 foreign nationals on business-visa violations to a major Galle-Hikkaduwa-Midigama sweep of 198 foreigners over cybercrime and a separate Thalangama operation against 37 Chinese nationals running an online scam centre.
