Colombo Dockyard PLC has overhauled its board following India’s Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDL) acquiring a 51 percent majority stake in the Sri Lankan shipyard, with the Indian state shipbuilder’s own chairman taking the chair at Colombo Dockyard.
Capt. (Retd.) Jagmohan, who currently serves as Chairman and Managing Director of MDL, has been appointed as Non-Executive Chairman of Colombo Dockyard PLC effective April 7, the company said in an announcement reported by Daily FT.
A Naval Architect trained at Cochin University of Science and Technology with postgraduate qualifications from IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur, Jagmohan served more than 25 years in the Indian Navy, including assignments at the Directorate of Naval Design and Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. He previously held director-level roles at Goa Shipyard Ltd. and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), where he oversaw warship projects for the Indian Navy and Coast Guard.
MDL has also nominated Vish Govindasamy as a Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director. Govindasamy is Deputy Chairman of Sunshine Holdings PLC and sits on the boards of Dialog Axiata, Softlogic Life Insurance, United Motors Lanka and Watawala Plantations. He also serves on the Governing Board and Monetary Policy Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
Senthilverl Nandhanan has been nominated by Senthilverl Holdings as a third Non-Executive Director. He serves as CEO of Dollar Corporation and as Non-Executive Director at Amana Bank and Sarvodaya Development Finance, and previously held a directorship at Panasian Power.
Thimira S. Godakumbura will continue as Managing Director and CEO of Colombo Dockyard and has also been named an MDL nominee director. The reshuffle follows last week’s Colombo Dockyard–Dredging Corporation of India cooperation MoU, cementing Indian strategic influence over one of Sri Lanka’s largest ship-repair facilities.
