The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has confirmed that the temporary concession allowing vehicle owners to obtain fuel without a QR code will expire at midnight on Saturday, April 18.
From tomorrow, the QR code system will once again be mandatory for fuel distribution across the country, CPC said.
The concession was introduced as a short-term measure to ease access during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festive season. The CPC had suspended the QR requirement around April 11, allowing vehicles to fuel up freely during the Avurudu holiday period.
Vehicle owners who have not yet registered in the CPC’s digital system will need to do so before attempting to purchase petrol from April 18 onward. The QR-based rationing system was introduced as part of the government’s fuel conservation measures during the ongoing energy supply constraints linked to the Middle East crisis.
The resumption comes as the government reported nine fuel shipments scheduled for April and a crude oil tanker arriving on April 17, gradually stabilising supply.
