The Police Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) questioned former Minister Udaya Gammanpila for nearly four hours on Monday in connection with a public statement he made regarding the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

Gammanpila appeared before the TID at around 11.00am in response to a summons issued by the unit. His statement was recorded during the questioning, and he left the premises after about four hours.

The investigation relates to a public statement Gammanpila made on April 21 in which he claimed suspects linked to the Easter Sunday attacks had not been arrested. He specifically alleged that certain individuals who had received specialised training had neither been arrested nor rehabilitated.

The questioning is the latest development in the TID summons over the book launch remarks reported earlier on May 11. It runs parallel to a separate Police summons over allegedly false claims from Kuliyapitiya regarding the death of Ranga Rajapaksha — placing the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader under simultaneous scrutiny on multiple tracks.

The TID’s case is being pursued under the Prevention of Terrorism Act framework, distinct from the Police’s criminal-defamation-style action over the Rajapaksha statement.
