A man identified as an associate of the organised crime figure known as “Homagama Gagana” has been arrested with 12 kilogrammes of heroin in Homagama, the Western Province North Crimes Division said.
The arrest was made on Thursday, April 24, with the seizure carrying an estimated street value of around Rs. 120 million. Police did not name the suspect or detail how the operation was developed.
“Homagama Gagana” is a well-known criminal alias linked to organised drug trafficking in the Homagama and outer-Colombo belt. Sri Lankan police periodically describe individual suspects as members of his network, but the principal himself has remained at large through successive crackdowns.
The Thursday seizure adds to the running tally of the Rata Ekata national anti-narcotics operation, which the Police Media Division said had recovered 1,917 kilogrammes of heroin and made more than 156,000 arrests between October 30, 2025 and April 23, 2026.
A 12-kilogramme single-suspect haul is at the upper end of typical street-level operations, suggesting the suspect was holding inventory for distribution rather than personal use. Investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the network and trace the supply chain that delivered the heroin into the Homagama area.
The suspect was due to be produced before a magistrate following the conclusion of initial questioning.
