LP gas distribution across Sri Lanka resumed on Wednesday after a temporary suspension during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holidays.

Laugfs Gas PLC announced that 5,000 metric tonnes of LP gas stocks are being released into the market through its Hambantota and Mabima terminals. Litro Gas Lanka also confirmed that its distribution operations have returned to normal.

The suspension was a routine holiday measure during the Avurudu festive period, which saw both major distributors temporarily halt deliveries to retailers.

Prices Remain Elevated

The resumption comes as consumers continue to absorb recent price increases implemented earlier this month. Laugfs raised its 12.5 kg domestic cylinder price to Rs. 5,700, while Litro increased rates by Rs. 775 per kilogram — both citing rising global energy costs linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict.

Restaurant operators have already passed on the higher gas costs to consumers through menu price increases.

The 5,000 MT release from Laugfs should help restore supply to retail outlets that depleted stocks during the holiday period, when demand for cooking gas typically spikes due to festive meal preparation.
