Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has filed an affidavit with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), declaring his assets and income sources ahead of the April 10 deadline.

The filing marks compliance with a CIABOC order issued earlier this month directing Rajapaksa to declare his assets and liabilities as part of an ongoing investigation covering the period from 2010 to 2015.

Airbus Probe Background

The assets investigation gained fresh impetus after former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena disclosed to CIABOC that Rs. 60 million from alleged Airbus bribe funds was paid to Rajapaksa on three separate occasions. The Airbus bribery case has produced arrest warrants for two former airline officials.

Broader Accountability Drive

Rajapaksa’s compliance avoids a potential contempt confrontation with the commission. The filing is one of several active accountability threads — the Pillayan murder confession and Prasanna Ranatunga corruption fine are proceeding in parallel under the Dissanayake government’s anti-corruption push.

Whether the affidavit’s contents satisfy CIABOC investigators or trigger further inquiries remains to be seen.
