A fire that broke out on Sunday morning at the Manning Market in Peliyagoda damaged around 20 shops before it was brought under control, NewsFirst reported.

Officials at the Fire and Rescue Services Department said four fire engines were deployed to the scene to douse the blaze. No injuries had been reported as of Sunday morning.

The Manning Market β€” Sri Lanka’s main wholesale fruit and vegetable market β€” sits on the northern edge of Colombo at Peliyagoda and is the central produce distribution point for traders across the Western Province. The cause of the fire was not immediately disclosed.
