The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has updated its landslide warnings for 17 Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSDs) across four districts, with the alerts remaining valid until 4:00 PM on Friday, May 29.
Level 2 (Amber) — remain cautious and vigilant:
- Kalutara District: Bulathsinhala DSD and surrounding areas
- Ratnapura District: Ayagama, Eheliyagoda, Kuruwita and Ratnapura DSDs and surrounding areas
Level 1 (Yellow) — remain watchful:
- Kalutara District: Matugama DSD and surrounding areas
- Kegalle District: Bulathkohupitiya, Ruwanwella, Dehiowita, Yatiyanthota and Deraniyagala DSDs and surrounding areas
- Nuwara Eliya District: Ambagamuwa DSD and surrounding areas
- Ratnapura District: Nivitigala, Pelmadulla, Kalawana, Kiriella and Elapatha DSDs and surrounding areas
The updated warnings come as the southwest monsoon continues to bring sustained heavy rainfall to the western, southern and central highlands. The Ratnapura and Kegalle districts have been under recurring NBRO advisories since late May, following a period in which Red-level warnings prompted evacuations and one fatality was recorded in the Divulapitiya area.
Residents in affected areas should avoid steep slopes, watch for signs of ground cracking or tilting structures, and be prepared to evacuate immediately on the instructions of local authorities. The NBRO operates a 24-hour hotline for reporting unusual ground movement.
