The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation announced on April 17 that the QR code-based petrol fuel quota system will resume from midnight on Saturday, April 18.

The system was temporarily suspended ahead of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year holiday period to ease travel during the festive rush. Vehicle owners were able to purchase petrol without presenting a QR code for approximately five days.

From midnight Saturday, the QR code will once again be mandatory for all fuel distribution across the country. Vehicle owners must present their registered QR code at filling stations to purchase petrol within their allocated quota.

The rationing system, introduced as part of broader fuel conservation measures during the Middle East energy crisis, limits purchases to prevent hoarding and ensure equitable distribution during a period of constrained supply.

Motorists returning from Avurudu holidays are advised to refuel before midnight or ensure their QR codes are ready for use from Saturday onwards.
