Sri Lanka has received a donation of US$100,000 from the Government of the Philippines to support reconstruction and recovery efforts following Cyclone Ditwah.
The funds were formally handed over to Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath by Philippine Ambassador Nina P. Cainglet. Herath expressed appreciation to the Government and people of the Philippines for their support and solidarity, in a post on X.
Cyclone Ditwah struck Sri Lanka in late November 2025, causing an estimated US$4.1 billion in damage, claiming 646 lives and affecting 2.2 million people. The recovery has proceeded unevenly, with substantial OCHA funding gaps still flagged by international donors and reconstruction programmes continuing well into 2026.
The Philippine contribution adds to a growing list of bilateral donations backing post-cyclone recovery. Sri Lanka has channelled external support into housing, road repair and livelihood restoration, alongside longer-term resilience programmes.
The donation also underlines warming Philippines–Sri Lanka relations, with the two countries maintaining active diplomatic engagement on disaster cooperation, regional maritime affairs and trade. No further details on how the funds will be allocated were immediately disclosed.
