Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya returned to Sri Lanka on Saturday afternoon after a five-day official visit to the United Kingdom, NewsFirst reported.
The Prime Minister, who serves concurrently as Minister of Education, departed Colombo on 18 May for the Commonwealth education programme in London. During the visit she met Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey at Marlborough House on the sidelines of the 43rd Commonwealth of Learning Board of Governors meeting, and held bilateral discussions with the British Education Secretary and the UK Minister of State for Education.
She also met members of the Sri Lankan community living in the United Kingdom during the tour.
The trip was the Prime Minister’s third major overseas engagement in May, following the Oxford lecture series at the OSGA earlier in the week and consistent with the government’s effort to use Commonwealth platforms for education-sector cooperation. No statement on bilateral outcomes had been released by the Prime Minister’s Office at the time of writing.
