Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, currently on an official visit to the United Kingdom, is scheduled to meet the UK Foreign Secretary and the Secretary of State for Education on Tuesday, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The PMO told NewsFirst the Prime Minister was also scheduled to hold discussions with education experts from the British Council during her engagements in London. The British Council slot is a new addition to the diplomatic agenda flagged when PM Amarasuriya departed for the UK on Monday last week, which listed bilateral meetings with UK Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.
The Tuesday meetings come a day after the Prime Minister attended the 60th anniversary conference of the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) at the University of Sussex, where she said politics is not something that can be separated from development and that every governance choice is shaped through it. The visit also includes a session at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies and a sideline meeting with Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.
