The Sri Lanka Police Scout Division has been officially inaugurated at a ceremony held at Police Headquarters, marking the first formal integration of scouting principles within the police service.

The event was presided over by Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya and Chief Scout Commissioner of the Sri Lanka Scout Association Manoj Nanayakkara, who originally conceptualised the new division to promote leadership, discipline and community engagement within the force.

Senior DIG (Training and Higher Training) Sampath Kumara Liyanage has been appointed to head the new division and will oversee the launch and ongoing operations of police scouting activities, supported by other senior officers tasked with implementing the initiative.

A high-level Sri Lanka Scout Association delegation attended the ceremony, including President Ransiri Perera, National Training Commissioner Padmalal Perera and National Programme Commissioner Geeth Ramesh, alongside Assistant Chief Commissioners Chandrani Fernando, Deshan Milinda and Sampath Kariyawasam, and Training Directors Indrajith Ramanayake and Tilakman Pathmasiri.

The Sri Lanka Police was represented at the senior level by Senior DIG (Administration) Sanjeewa Dharmaratne, Senior DIG (Western Province) Sajeewa Medawatta and Senior DIG (Support Services) Rajitha Sri Daminda.

IGP Weerasuriya has overseen a series of structural moves in the force this year, including a drive to repatriate criminals abroad through Interpol and a ban on gifts at New Year police events as part of the broader integrity agenda.
