The ultra-luxury cruise ship Silver Dawn arrived at Galle on Thursday morning carrying 596 tourists and 411 crew members, bringing the total number on board to 1,007, Sri Lankan port authorities confirmed.
The 213-metre, 11-deck vessel, operated by Silversea Cruises, anchored off Galle Harbour for the day before departing for Colombo Port on Friday, April 10. Passengers were expected to visit Galle Fort, Balapitiya’s Madu River, Unawatuna, Rumassala and Koggala during the stopover.
Silver Dawn is midway through a 141-day global voyage titled “The Curious and the Sea.” The ship previously docked at Trincomalee on April 7 before moving south along Sri Lanka’s coast — a two-port call that offers a rare double boost to both the Eastern Province tourism economy and the Southern heritage trail.
The arrival provides a welcome counterpoint for an industry under pressure. March arrivals fell 19% year-on-year as escalating Middle East tensions and wider regional disruption hit inbound travel, even as the country crossed 750,000 cumulative arrivals for 2026 earlier this month. High-spend cruise passengers — who typically combine shore excursions with guided tours — are prized by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority as a way to cushion arrival volatility from air travel.
Silversea is positioned at the premium end of the global cruise market, and the Silver Dawn’s arrival is the largest ultra-luxury call at a Sri Lankan port so far this season.
