The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” level advisory for strong winds affecting several parts of the country.
The advisory covers the Northern, North-Central, Central and North-Western provinces, along with the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. An Amber warning indicates weather conditions that could disrupt daily activities and pose a risk to vulnerable structures, and calls for heightened awareness and preparedness.
Residents in the affected areas have been urged to take precautions against gusty winds, which can bring down tree branches, loose roofing sheets and other unsecured objects. The public has been advised to secure temporary structures and to be cautious near hoardings, trees and weakened buildings during periods of strong wind.
The advisory comes as the country continues to experience unsettled, warm weather. The Meteorology Department said it would issue updates as conditions evolve and advised the public to follow official forecasts and warnings.
