The National Election Commission (NEC) has opened the preliminary draft of Sri Lanka’s 2026 voters’ register for public inspection and set June 5, 2026 as the deadline for submitting claims and objections.
NEC Chairman R.M.A.L. Rathnayake said the draft is on display at all District Election Offices and at Grama Niladhari offices in every administrative division, allowing voters to verify their entries in person. The register can also be checked online via the official Election Commission website, he added.
Members of the public who find errors in their registration details — incorrect addresses, missing names, or duplicate entries — must lodge claims or objections through the prescribed forms before the June 5 cut-off. Any corrections accepted by the Commission will flow through to the certified register, which becomes the basis for any election held during the year.
The annual roll certification is a routine statutory process under the Registration of Electors Act, but takes on heightened relevance in 2026 with provincial council and local authority elections still pending and the parliamentary cycle in its second year. The current register reflects new voters who turned 18 in the year ending January 31, 2026, and removes deceased and disqualified electors.
Rathnayake urged voters to use the inspection window to confirm their details before the certification, noting that errors not raised by June 5 cannot be corrected until the next annual revision.
