SriLankan Airlines has resumed flights between Colombo and Kuwait, restoring a route suspended last month because of the security situation in the Middle East.
The national carrier will operate six services a week, the Daily Mirror reported. Hiru News said the flights restarted on Saturday afternoon, citing the Civil Aviation Authority.
The schedule
Flight UL229 will leave Colombo at 5:10 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, arriving in Kuwait at 8:05 p.m.
The return service, UL230, departs Kuwait at 9:10 p.m. on the same days and lands in Colombo at 5:15 a.m. the following morning.
That gives the airline regular passenger services on every day of the week except Wednesday.
Why the route was closed
SriLankan suspended its Kuwait operations on July 21, initially covering the period to July 26, as regional airspace restrictions and heightened military activity disrupted Gulf traffic. The airline described the halt as temporary and subject to review once conditions improved.
The route matters beyond the timetable. Kuwait hosts a large Sri Lankan migrant workforce and is among the biggest single sources of worker remittances to the country, so a prolonged closure affects labour movement and family travel as well as the carrier’s Gulf network.
