SriLankan Airlines has temporarily suspended its scheduled flights to Kuwait, the national carrier confirmed, citing the worsening security situation across the Middle East.
Ada Derana reported the suspension, which the airline said took effect immediately. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka, the halt covers services between July 20 and July 26, after which conditions in the region are expected to be reassessed.
The decision places SriLankan among a widening group of international carriers that have paused or rerouted Gulf operations in recent days as regional airspace restrictions and heightened military activity disrupt travel networks. Several major airlines have adjusted schedules over the same period.
The carrier advised affected passengers to contact its call centre for rebooking and refund options, directing travellers to the 1979 hotline or +94 11 777 1979 for further assistance.
Kuwait is a significant destination for SriLankan Airlines, serving a large community of Sri Lankan migrant workers in the Gulf state. A prolonged suspension could affect both labour movement and remittance-linked travel, though the airline described the current measure as temporary and subject to review once the security outlook improves.
The airline said it would issue further updates as the situation develops.
