The Defence Attaché at the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka called on the Commander of the Navy at Navy Headquarters on Wednesday.

Commander KUBO Takayuki met Vice Admiral Damian Fernando and conveyed best wishes on his appointment as the 27th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, the Navy said in a statement.

Their discussion covered several matters of bilateral importance and what the Navy described as long-standing cooperation between the two countries. Mementos were exchanged to mark the occasion.

Neither the Navy’s statement nor Ada Derana’s report of the meeting set out further detail of what was discussed.

Vice Admiral Fernando assumed command of the Navy in July and paid homage at the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi and Ruwanweli Maha Seya in Anuradhapura shortly after taking over. Later that month he received the retiring Army Commander, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, at Naval Headquarters as Rodrigo made his farewell calls ahead of the end of his tenure.
