Two unidentified men opened fire at a house in the Kudawella area of Tangalle early on Wednesday morning before fleeing the scene, police said.
The pair arrived at the property on a motorcycle and fired at the house using a 9mm firearm, according to police accounts carried by the Daily Mirror and Ada Derana. No injuries were reported.
Both outlets said the targeted property belongs to a fisheries boat owner. Neither report named the owner, gave a motive, or said whether anyone was inside the house at the time.
No arrests had been reported at the time of publication, and police have not said whether the shooting is being linked to any wider dispute.
Context
Kudawella, on the Hambantota district coast, is one of the south’s main fishing settlements and centres on its fisheries harbour. The harbour was the site of a separate incident in May, when a man was arrested after firing shots into the air there and was taken into custody along with the weapon. Police have not connected the two events.
